Allowed Calculators

There is no NCEES Approved List, but here are a few calculators we know are acceptable. Please keep in mind that this list in not all-inclusive and check with your licensing board as some states will provide their own "approved" list"

Hewlett Packard:
- HP-9 series (this includes the HP-9g and HP-9s)
- HP-30s
- HP-32s
- HP-33s
Sharp:

- TI-30 series (this includes the TI-30Xa, TI-30X IIB, TI-30XIIS, TI-36X Solar and TI-36X II Solar)

Prohibited Calculators

This is the latest list from NCEES of prohibited calculators. Your state board may also have other restrictions and they should be contacted to determine what they are.

Based on research performed at the request of its Member Boards after the April 2004 exam administration, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) has determined that the following calculators are prohibited inside NCEES exam rooms. Calculators with communication or text-editing capabilities will be banned from all NCEES exam sites. These include, but are not limited to the following calculators:

- TI-83, TI-83 Plus, and TI-83 Plus Silver Edition

*The calculators marked with an asterisk (*) have been added since the last update on January 15, 2004.

This is not an all-inclusive list of calculators banned from the NCEES examinations. Based on NCEES Exam Policy 15, any calculator that has communicating or text-editing capabilities or other features that may compromise the security of NCEES exams is prohibited in the exam room. The above list specifies various models that NCEES has been requested to evaluate for appropriateness in the exam room.
